Honda EV-N Concept

This concept to be unveiled next month at the Tokyo Motor Show is an EV, but honestly, I don’t care what powertrain they put in it. I’m a sucker for well-executed retro and this brings back all the cool elements of the N600. Honda, please build this! More pics at Jalopnik

Behind the Scenes of the LP560-4 Promo

The Gallardo might not be the best drift car, but that didn’t stop Samuel Hubinette from getting it sideways, and at the end of the shoot for the Italian Stallion’s promo video, the Crazy Swede apparently wanted to “liberate” one for personal use. To be honest, I wasn’t all that pumped on the finished product—remember that thing about how a Lamborghini would get you girl’s phone numbers?—but watching all the killer camera cars and the logistics behind the production was pretty awesome. And it’s not like there’s a lack of sexy Italian eye-candy either…

Guess Date of First Ferrari 458 Wreck, Win $500

As soon as I saw the photos of Ferrari’s new 458 Italia, I started wondering when we would see the first one wrecked. I even pitched the idea of putting a countdown clock on the CarDomain homepage, and calling it “Ferrari 458 Italia Death Watch,” and while everyone here liked the idea, we never got around to doing it. But the guys over at Wrecked Exotics actually got their asses in gear, and are offering $500 to the person who guesses the date of the first crash. Now, the new cavallino isn’t scheduled to go on sale until next summer, but Ferrari will be testing the car until then, so one will almost certainly get wrecked before the public gets their hands on it. I don’t know whether a picture of it burning will count, but I would imagine so. Head over to Wrecked Exotics for all the info on this sweet contest.

L.A. Times: All Old Cars are Dirty, Need to be Crushed

I’ve received a few emails about a recent L.A. Times story that’s been making the rounds with a quote from YT in it, defending the 25-year exemption inserted into the federal cash for clunkers program, thanks to SEMA’s lobbying efforts. For the story, Ralph Vartabedian and Ken Bensinger rounded up a bunch of folks who thought their VW Beetles should qualify for cash for clunkers and used those stories to question the 25-year exemption.

Aside from the libertarian who claims that destroying older vehicles immediately results in increased values for the remaining vehicles (attrition-induced rarity != valuable, as any Vega owner can attest), the authors also support limitless crushing of old cars with some dubious-sounding stats from the California Air Resources Board that claim a 1965 Chevrolet Malibu produces 400 times the smog-forming pollutants of a 2010 Malibu. Have You Been a Good Samaritan Lately?

Since I’ve been into cars I’ve run across many people who needed my help with one thing or another. A jump start, a spare tire change, or a push to the nearest gas station. Most of these people have been friends of mine. But have you ever helped a stranger in need of automotive assistance?

Another Mechanical Failure

This is what your car’s thermostat should not look like. I had a feeling this was the reason why my Mini was running warm. This stuff happens to all of us, right?

LeMons: The Contender

A SAAB 99 with a late 16valve swap was Team Trailing Throttle Oversteer’s only real competition for the Index of Effluency. Team Adopted by Jets fished the little beastie out of a field, and arrived with a few blades of grass still intact. The exhaust running up over the roof was a nice touch, but it wasn’t the afterburner they would have needed to catch us. Good work anyway, guys!
